I was browsing the internet this morning of some of my favorite bloggers and I came across the Mood Blog. It was interesting to find that their March challenge was to create something in lace that the bloggers chose from Mood. I hope it's true that great minds think alike...

Last week, I created McCall's 6505 for a client to wear to a birthday party this past weekend.

She bought the lace from JoAnn fabric store , and provided me with everything...I just had to fit, cut, fit, and sew. It came out beautiful, however my Dressy Dessy (dressform) does it no justice because they are not the same size. And, this client takes her clothes on the run, lol! I'll share what I have, but when I get the pics from her, I'll share them with you. :)

Let me just say, in honor of Dressy Dessy, her legs are a little bad, so she has a prosthetic for the moment. She's schedule for maintenance and repair soon, lol!

Anyhow, this is the front of the dress. I literally had to cut the edging of the lace from the borders and reshape then around the neckline. In order to give the neckline some stiffness, I cut the neck facings out of netting and fused the cut lace trim to the facings with stitch witchery, as I placed them. Then, I pinned the interfaced trim to the neck of the dress ( front only) and stitched in place with the free motion technique. BEAUTIFUL!!

The back calls for a purchased binding or trim. I just cut bias strips from the taffeta lining that she bought and created my own binding. Worked like a charm. She loved it!

Also, the slip part of the dress is self-lined. However, she didn't have enough fabric and no time. So, I lined the slip part of the dress to the waist. A few other things I need to mention. The hem on the dress is turned up and stitched in place. However, I cut the dress so that the border would be the hem. So, I eliminated the hem amount. ( SN: I lengthened the dress about 6" for my client at her request). I, also, cut the sleeves along the border, so there's no actual hem there either. Lastly, I added a clear snap closure above the zipper.

The dress looked amazing on her during the first fitting. Can't wait to see a picture myself, gosh!!!

I was typing Great minds think alike and looked up to see that you had already typed that...Twice we a have had the same thought.  Well, we must have a good connection! I just love this dress!!! You did a masterful job and she must have loved it when you told her that. What a feeling for you to see your creation like this!

Thanks Mardell! The lady that I made this for came by the store today and showed me a picture of her in it, and those are the words that I used to describe her, " a million bucks"! She looked beautiful in it!

I saw this in the McCall's catalog yesterday and it looked familiar now I remember seeing it here. It is such a lovely dress. I would love to have one but I would have to have it longer. It is absolutely stunning and every time I wore it I would feel like a million bucks!

Thanks for sharing.

The dress is gorgeous.  I really appreciate the amount of work and effort around the necklines.  Beautiful finishings.
