Does anybody remember the Cosby Show? Remember the episode where Theo has Denise to copy a designer shirt, a Gordon Gartrell? I have a video HERE of that episode, lol! Anyway, I made this knit top tonight...a very familiar top. It was VERY easy and quick to put together. Maybe takes 1 hour, truly to cut and sew.

Let me just show you the pattern:

I did the hot pink version with the longer sleeves. I expected a slight issue because I cut my top on the cross-grain so I would have enough fabric~ I'm infamous for not sticking to directions when it comes to cooking, and apparently when it comes to sewing, hee-hee! But, all looked well until I tried the darn thing on. I thought WTH (heck, okay... :o/ ), the top fit so twisted-like. I thought perhaps because the sleeves were so fitted that maybe the top wasn't going up my arm like it was suppose to. So, I did the inevitable~ I could the sleeves back off, and just above to give me some moving room. Now, my top is more like the gold version...no problem right? Wrong? The top still twisted. And, this top is a true close-fitting top.

I thought, how could I mess up a top so simple, until I read other reviews on Pattern Review. Several that made this same top had the same issue, and others made the top with no problems.

But, I'm telling you, I felt like Theo when he tried the shirt that Denise made him. What made it even funnier is when my husband walked in when I was just trying it on and he says to me, " You have really got to get back into sewing....". Well, thanks buddy for the vote of confidence, ugh! However, it was funny, LOL!

Either way, I'm not giving up on my top. I'm not sure what I would or could do differently except cut it in the direction that I'm suppose to. The misdirected cut didn't seem to make a big difference in that respect.

I'm not sure what to do with it~ one side has an excess of fabric under one arm; the top is snug at the hips; and, it feels twisted. Can anyone shed any light on what is happening?

I'll share a picture of me in it...maybe?

Thanks,

Alethia

Sure. Pattern Magic are books by Tomoko Nakamichi and the pattern that you might be interested is called The twist: a nejiri pullover. You can find Pattern Magic examples on the Flickr page.

Carolyn from Handmade by Carolyn has made the twisted pullover.

I now own all 3 Pattern Magic books - the English versions.

I hope this helps or enables you.

In the Pattern Magic books there's a top you can draft the uses the twisted look on a knit top. Maybe this top is the perfect substitute?

Looks good to me. But I can see how this top could turn on you, it sorta looks like its slightly twisted in model pose. Oh what memories from the Cosbys.

Thanks Jo Ann, I know you will tell me the truth, lol! I feel much better about it after finishing it. However, I don't believe I'll be making this one again.

It looks like you paid a lot of money to a top name designer for an edgy top...wear it with pride and throw on some Christmas earrings and a Santa hat....you be stylin'!

Okay, after I stitched the hems and neckline in  place and pressed it, it looks better...what do you think?
